Simplify your holiday wrapping supplies and become famous for it
My grandparent’s owned a furniture store when I was a kid.
They sold beautiful mid-century Ethan Allen-type furniture — you know, the stuff made of maple with dovetail corners in the drawers... beautiful, quality stuff.
They also sold little things like crystal candy dishes, Hummel figurines, and those table-top ceramic Christmas trees with the little light ornaments.
Because they sold smaller items, they offered a gift-wrapping service around the holidays.
They had this huge roll of Victorian-style, metallic-gold wrapping paper.
It was on a big brass roller/cutter thingy.
It was so cool.
That gold paper was so quintessential “Grandma & Grandpa.”
They retired in 1975. I was 3 years old.
But that wrapping paper lived on.
They brought it home from the furniture store and continued to use it year after year.
They would arrive at our house at 11 o’clock every Christmas morning, open the trunk to their car, and there would be boxes of presents for us — all in the same exact Victorian gold wrapping paper.
When I was 8 years old, my grandfather used that gold wrapping paper to teach me to measure the perfect sheet size for each present, and how to wrap and fold the perfect corners for the ends.
That paper lasted through my college years.
They had just one huge roll of wrapping paper.
Simple.
Contained.
Clutter-free.

What’s your wrapping paper storage look like?
Is it a box at the top of the guest room closet?
A big plastic, under-the-bed wrapping paper organizer from The Container Store?
Or an entire closet dedicated to holding dozens of different papers, ribbons, bows, the works?
How can you simplify your wrapping this year?
If you simplify, maybe you too can become “known” for something.
Famous, even!
I like to keep my paper simple (brown craft paper) and dress it up with velvet ribbons.
I do have 5 different colorful velvet ribbon spools though!
Or, maybe you have kids and you want your paper to be all purple giraffes and polka-dotted elephants. Did you know you can wrap adult presents in that stuff too?? I know, crazy!! But so fun!
Or maybe you just buy an industrial-sized roll of paper that you love, use forever, and become famous for?
So... What do you want to be known for?
ME? I love my colorful velvet ribbons!
And if you’re resistant to simplifying your wrapping paper —
I’d like you to ask yourself, Why?
Why is it important to you to have 10-20 different types of wrapping paper?
Why is it important to you that your holiday wrapping be a certain way?
What do you think it says about you if you use only one type of wrapping paper? Or 10?
